Guidance Sessions
You don't have to figure this out alone.
Our guidance isn't built on textbooks — it's built on lived experience. We've been in your shoes, and we're here to walk alongside you.
Guidance from families who've been there.
When your child is diagnosed, or when a parent starts losing their sight, the questions come fast and the answers are hard to find. We know that feeling — because we've lived it.
Family Compass guidance is peer-to-peer at its core. We pair you with someone who has navigated the same system, faced the same fears, and found a way forward. Just honest, caring support from someone who truly gets it.
What we offer
Coaching for every part of the journey
Just Talk — 1-on-1 Support Session
Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who gets it. Not a therapist — a parent who has been exactly where you are. Bring your questions, your fears, your frustrations, or just show up and let it out. This is a safe, caring space.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- No set agenda — you lead the conversation
- Ask anything: school, daily life, emotions, next steps
- Follow-up resource list based on your situation
Newly Diagnosed — Where Do I Even Start?
Your child was just diagnosed and you feel like the floor dropped out. We remember that feeling. This session is built for families in those first overwhelming weeks and months — helping you understand what comes next and that you are not alone.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- What the diagnosis actually means in everyday life
- The first steps most families wish they had known
- You leave with a clear, simple action list
Family Navigation Guidance
One-on-one sessions to help you understand your options, advocate for your family member, and build a clear path forward — whether you're newly navigating a diagnosis or years into the journey.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- Your choice of phone, text, or Zoom
- Flexible scheduling, including evenings
IEP & School Advocacy
Preparing for an IEP meeting can feel overwhelming. We help you understand your child's rights, review documents, and walk into that room with confidence.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- Pre-meeting preparation and review
- Know your rights as a parent
- Follow-up support after the meeting
Elderly Vision Loss — Family Support
When a parent or grandparent starts losing their vision, the whole family feels it. We help adult children and caregivers understand what their loved one is going through, what tools exist, and how to have the hard conversations.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- Understanding age-related vision loss
- Assistive tools and home modifications that help
- How to talk to your loved one about accepting help
- Services most families never find on their own
Accessibility Knowledge for the Blind
A practical deep-dive into the tools, technologies, and environments that make daily life more accessible for blind and low-vision individuals. Walk away with a clear picture of what's available, what works, and how to advocate for it.
- 45 minutes via phone or video call
- Overview of assistive technology: screen readers, braille displays, and apps
- Home, school, and workplace accessibility strategies
- How to request accommodations and navigate accessibility laws
- Resources and organizations that support accessibility

Our coach had a child with the same diagnosis as our son. She didn't just give us information — she gave us hope. That's something no textbook can do.
