We built the guide we wish we'd had.
Family Compass didn't come from a research paper or a grant. It came from late nights, hard conversations, and the slow realization that too many families were navigating this alone.
Our story
It started with one family's journey.
When our son was diagnosed with a visual impairment at 4 months, we were handed a pamphlet and a list of phone numbers. We didn't know what questions to ask, who to trust, or where to even begin.
Over the years, we found our footing — through trial and error, through other families who generously shared what they'd learned, and through advocates who helped us fight for what our son deserved. But it took too long, and it was too hard.
Family Compass exists so that the next family doesn't have to start from zero. We've gathered everything we wish we'd known — the resources, the guidance, the community — and made it accessible to every family, wherever they are in the journey.
We didn't find a roadmap. So we made one.
